The subject of the fifth quarter in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program (and the last quarter of 2010) is Mount Hood National Forest.  This forest is located 20 miles east of Portland, Oregon.

Mount Hood National Forest encompasses more than one million acres in the northern part of the Willamette River Valley.  It runs from the beautiful Columbia River Gorge south across more than 60 miles of forested mountains, lakes, and streams, to the Olallie Scenic Area.

Two of the forest's many highlights are the Timberline Lodge, itself a national historic landmark, and the Clackamas Wild and Scenic River.  Mount Hood was established as a national site on September 28, 1893.

The quarter's image shows Mount Hood towering above the trees.  In the foreground is Lost Lake, also part of the park.
