How EPA is
Protecting children from the potential effects of pesticides is one of EPA’s most important responsibilities. Pesticides have widespread uses and may affect children’s health in a variety of settings. We recognize that children are at greater risk from pesticide exposure. So we set stricter standards to protect infants and children from those risks.
These web pages explain steps we are taking and things parents, caregivers, and teachers can do to protect children from pesticides where they live, learn, play and work.
- Protecting Children Where They Live: This page describes how children may be exposed to pesticides used in and around their homes and through their diets.
- Protecting Children Where They Learn: This page describes how children may be exposed to pesticides applied in and around their school or day care.
- Protecting Children Where They Play: This page describes how children may be exposed to pesticides used on play structures, decks, and picnic tables.
- Protecting Children Where They Work: Some children are employed in agriculture or may be present in places where pesticides are used. They can also be exposed to pesticides brought home on their parents’ clothes.
