Physician Training Seminars and Compliance with Administrative Order Number 274

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Dengue Branch has conducted 45 physician seminars on the Clinical Case Management of Dengue since February of 2009 in collaboration with Puerto Rico Department of Health, the College of Physicians-Surgeons of Puerto Rico and the Pan American Health Organization. Approximately 6,300 physicians have been trained as of September 30, 2010. Physicians who attended one of the listed seminars are in compliance with the Administrative Order number 274 issued by the Puerto Rico Secretary of Health on September 3, 2010. The Administrative Order requires that emergency room physicians, obstetricians and gynecologists, intensive care physicians, hospitalists, family physicians, pediatricians, internists, and general medicine physicians take the training seminar or register online by September 30, 2010 for a seminar offered in October of 2010 (register now here). This order does not apply to physicians licensed in Puerto Rico who currently live and work in the Continental United States. These physicians and all other physicians not listed in the order have until their birthday in 2013 to take the seminar.
