The United States Attorney for the District of Montana, Michael W. Cotter, announced today that Ken Trottier, Jr., Supervisory Criminal Investigator with the Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law & Justice, was presented with the U.S. Attorney's Excellence Award during a meeting with the Fort Peck Tribal Council.

The Excellence Award is given to law enforcement agents who consistently exhibit the highest degree of professionalism and commitment to their work, serve as the primary or instrumental investigator in a major case, receive the recognition and respect of their fellow agents, and whose investigations demonstrate integrity, candor, fairness and reliability.

Prior to making the award, U.S. Attorney Cotter asked federal prosecutors and law enforcement to share their thoughts about SCI Trottier's work. One prosecutor noted that Trottier is always "reliable and his counsel measured and insightful." Another prosecutor commented, "Kenny Trottier has been the person we have always looked to when we really needed someone found and interviewed; when we really needed to get the big picture on the events occurring on the reservation." When asked about Trottier's dedication to his work, a law enforcement officer said, "Ken Trottier has been an integral part of federal investigations on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. I believe the highest compliment you can give another law enforcement officer is to describe them as a partner. Every time I worked with CI Trottier, his level of dedication and commitment to getting the job done has been absolutely flawless."

In making the award, U.S. Attorney Cotter noted Trottier's dedication to pursuing justice for the people of Fort Peck. U.S. Attorney Cotter also noted Trottier's impeccable record of cooperation with other law enforcement partners on Fort Peck. "Ken Trottier understands the importance of cooperative investigations," said U.S. Attorney Michael W. Cotter. "Trottier is an exceptional member of law enforcement and the U.S. Attorney's Office is truly lucky to have him as a partner in Fort Peck."

U.S. Attorney Cotter also identified several important investigations where SCI Trottier's participation was instrumental, to include, United States v. Stanette Patricia Crowe, United States v. Curtis Ray Eder, United States v. Archie Dean Red Boy III, United States v. Elmer Red Eagle Jr., and United States v. Robert Darryl War Club.

Originally from Poplar, Trottier served in the United States Marine Corps for 41/2 years before returning to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation where he was a BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS Police Officer for approximately 51/2 years. In 1996 he became a Criminal Investigator for Fort Peck Tribes, and was promoted to Supervisory Criminal Investigator in 2008. July 2012 marks 21 years in law enforcement for Trottier.
