Susan B. Shurin, M.D., Takes Helm at the NHLBI

Dear Colleagues,

It is my tremendous pleasure and privilege to serve as the Acting Director of the NHLBI beginning yesterday, December 1, 2009.

I am excited to be working with the outstanding staff at this Institute, our Board of External Experts, the NHLBI Advisory Council members, and the scientific and public health community. The value of wise counsel and support has been much in evidence over the past four years in which I have served as the NHLBI’s Deputy Director. The NHLBI team is ideally suited to tackle whatever challenges the future may bring. This reflects Dr. Elizabeth Nabel's inspired and visionary leadership.

The NHLBI will continue its long history of supporting and conducing outstanding science, training the next generation of scientists, educating the public, and improving the health of the world.
