NHLBI and the Recovery Act: Transparency

The NHLBI works closely with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to ensure that scientific merit and quality, as well as the highest standards of transparency and accountability, guide the NHLBI’s implementation of the Recovery Act.

In coordination with the NIH and the HHS Recovery Act Implementation team, the NHLBI is posting information about the critical steps of the funding process, tracking and posting funded projects through the NIH’s Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool Expenditures and Results (RePORTER) system, and reporting their impact on the economy at www.hhs.gov/recovery.

Please send Recovery Act-related comments, feedback, and suggestions to nhlbi.listens@nih.gov.

How to find Recovery Act-funded projects through the NIH’s RePORTER tool

In summer 2009, the NIH released to the public a beta version of its new RePORTER system. This new tool retains all of the features of the previous NIH reporting system, CRISP, with the addition of new query fields that can be sorted and downloaded, including a search field for Recovery Act-funded grants. NHLBI adapted the RePORTER so that visitors to this Web site can search for NHLBI Recovery Act projects—the NHLBI-specific search tool is located on each page. (See below for instructions.)

On the top right of each page of this Web site, the NHLBI has provided a tool for finding its Recovery Act projects, which sorts by the following fields:

  • Organization/Institution (for example, the name of a university)
  • State
  • Congressional District
  • Principal investigator

To search by a public health or scientific term (for example, hypertension), click on “RePORTER Advanced Search” and enter those terms in the “term search box.” To obtain better search results, please click on the question mark next to the ‘term search’ field to obtain detailed search instructions.
