American Veterans Disabled for Life Dollar

Soldiers, sailors, pilots…all the people who serve in our nation's armed forces provide a crucial service for us:  protecting our freedom from its enemies.  Those of us who can't serve in this way are deeply indebted to those who do.

As part of their job, enlisted people sometimes have to risk their lives and their health to accomplish their tasks.  For some of them, disability results.

There are many ways to say "thank you" for the price they have paid in defending our liberty.  One way is to set our gratitude in stone, and that is the goal of the Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation.

The Foundation plans to build a monument they call the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial in Washington, DC.  In 2000, Congress authorized the building of this memorial.

Congress also authorized the creation of the 2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life silver dollar.  Part of the money charged for each coin will go to the Foundation to help pay for the building of the memorial.  You can read more about this coin on the Commemorative Coins page.

The creation of this coin is just one way to (as the inscription says) "take this moment to honor our disabled defenders of freedom."
