If you have been sexually assaulted
- Go to a safe place.
- Call for help. Call 911 or CPAF at 1-800-339-3940. Your call to CPAF is confidential and you can remain anonymous.
- Get support. Resources are available to assist you in your recovery regardless of your immigration status. You have the right to receive medical and legal services in your language.
- Get medical help as soon as possible to check for both external and internal injuries and to determine the risks of sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and pregnancy.
- Preserve evidence of the assault. If possible, do not bathe, do not brush your teeth, do not drink, do not change your clothes, and do not go to the bathroom.
- If you think you want to file a police report, you should do this as soon as you are ready. If you file a police report, you have the right not to participate in the prosecution of your assailant.
If you have been sexually assaulted, remember…
- You are not alone. In the U.S., 1 in 6 women experience rape or attempted rape at some point in their lives. Globally, 1 in 3 women are beaten, coerced into sex or are otherwise abused.
- It is not your fault.
- Help is available.
