I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status

Purpose of Form :
To apply for a temporary immigration status granted to eligible nationals of designated countries. You must also file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, with your Application for Temporary Protected Status, regardless of your age, even if you are not seeking an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

If you are applying for re-registration, you may be able to file online If you file online, you will be required to concurrently file Form I-765 online.

If you are filing a paper application, use the filing address listed in the Federal Register notice for your country or on our Temporary Protected Status page. 

Filing Fee :
$50 for first time applicants. There is no application fee for re-registration. An $85 per person fee for biometric services may be required.
Special Instructions :

Do not use Form I-821 to request consideration of deferred action for childhood arrivals. To file for that process you must use Form I-821D.

If you are filing your applications at a USCIS Lockbox facility:

To ensure your applications are accepted:

  • Remember to sign your forms.
  • Submit the correct fees.
  • File Form I-765 with your Form I-821, even if you are not requesting an EAD.
  • Complete both forms, particularly these required fields:
