Purpose of Form :

To apply for a temporary immigration status granted to eligible nationals of designated countries. You must also file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, with your Application for Temporary Protected Status, regardless of your age, even if you are not seeking an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

Where to File :

If you are applying for re-registration, you may be able to file online.  If you file online, you will be required to concurrently file Form I-765 online.

If you are filing a paper application, use the filing address listed in the Federal Register notice for your country or on our Temporary Protected Status page. 

Filing Fee :

$50 for first time applicants. There is no application fee for re-registration. An $85 per person fee for biometric services may be required.

Special Instructions :

Do not use Form I-821 to request consideration of deferred action for childhood arrivals. To file for that process you must use Form I-821D.

• To receive an e-Notification when your applications have been accepted, complete Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance and clip it to the front of the first application in the package.

To ensure your applications are accepted:

• Remember to sign your forms.
• Submit the correct fees.
• File Form I-765 with your Form I-821, even if you are not requesting an EAD.
• Complete both forms, particularly these required fields:
