NLM Announces the New Bioethics Information Resources Web Page

The National Library of Medicine (NLM®) has collected, indexed, and provided access to bioethics-related literature for many years. Now NLM offers a consolidated Bioethics Information Resources Web page. This new easy-to-use electronic resource will assist users, whether they are specialists in the field or researchers or clinicians or the general public, in finding the bioethics information they need by searching NLM databases as well as linking to other Federal government and outside resources. Examples of featured resources include:

  • Bioethics-filtered search boxes for MEDLINE®/PubMed® and NLM Catalog
  • Links to other NLM databases or information resources such as Genetics Home Reference, MedlinePlus® including its Go Local service for finding local resources for health-related issues, and the NLM Gateway
  • Links to NIH’s Bioethics Resources on the Web and other bioethics-related Web sites such as the National Bioethics Advisory Committee and the Kennedy Institute of Ethics’ National Reference Center for Bioethics Literature (NRCBL) at Georgetown University

The literature of bioethics focuses on the rights, relationships, and duties of healthcare professionals and their patients; the social impact of biomedical, behavioral, and genetic research and technology; and the development of public policy for both the delivery of health care and the conduct of research. As a cross-disciplinary subject of interest to health sciences, social sciences, law, philosophy, religion, and the popular media, bioethics relates to the mission of every institute and center at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

NLM welcomes user comments on this new, centralized Web page. Use the Contact NLM link from the new Web page.
