AIDS United, Partners Call on DNC Delegates to “Turn the Tide of HIV/AIDS in the U.S.”

CHARLOTTE, NC, August 31, 2012 – With an AIDS-free generation within our reach, AIDS United and other partner organizations in North Carolina and from around the country are urging delegates to the 2012 Democratic National Convention to reinvigorate their commitment to ending the epidemic United States. 

At a non-partisan event during the Democratic National Convention titled, "Turning the Tide of HIV/AIDS in the U.S.," health care professionals, community leaders and people living with HIV/AIDS will discuss the current state of national HIV/AIDS legislation and policy, as well as issues related to access to care and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS.  The event will take place on Tuesday, September 4.  A similar event was held during the Republican National Convention on August 28.  Read more.

Kenyan Organization Receives AIDS United’s 2012 Innovative Strategy Award

Washington D.C. –  July  24, 2012 – Provincial General Hospital Comprehensive Care Centre (PGH CCC), from Nakuru County in Kenya, Africa has received AIDS United’s 2012 Innovative Strategy Award for Access and Retention in HIV/AIDS Care.  The health care facility is receiving $25K in unrestricted funding, as well as all expenses paid for key staff to attend the 2012 International AIDS Conference. AIDS United Welcomes Important Step Forward in HIV Prevention

Washington D.C. – June 27, 2012 -- "AIDS United welcomes the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the use of Truvada for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV infection in uninfected individuals.  Truvada is an antiretroviral drug produced by Gilead Sciences, Inc. lead’s used to treat HIV infection and is the first drug to be approved by the FDA for use as PrEP.  AIDS United views the FDA’s approval of Truvada as PrEP as an important step to increase the available options for a comprehensive approach to HIV prevention, especially for individuals who are at high risk of HIV infection."  Read More

AIDS United Commends FDA on Approval of OraQuick In-Home HIV Test

Washington D.C. - July 5, 2012 - AIDS United commends the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its approval of the OraQuick In-Home HIV Test.  Thanks to the FDA's approval of OraQuick, people will have access to the first-ever over-the-counter HIV test that detects the presence of HIV antibodies using a mouth swab and returns a result in 20 to 40 minutes. AIDS United Announces Access to Care Funding Opportunity

AIDS United is pleased to announce the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking 2 – 4 new grantees to join its Social Innovation Fund Access to Care portfolio.

The Social Innovation Fund (SIF), an initiative enacted under the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, is a federal government program designed to utilize millions of dollars in public funds to attract private sector resources and to expand effective solutions across three issue areas: economic opportunity, healthy futures, and youth development and school support. AU is partnering with the SIF, within the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), to ensure that many more people living with HIV/AIDS are accessing and fully utilizing quality HIV health care.  The SIF is designed as a public-private investment vehicle to leverage funds to support innovative solutions to critical issues.
