EPA Cleanup and Multi-Agency Programs: Overview

Cleaning up sites that are contaminated with radioactive materials is an important way in which EPA helps protect people and the environment from unnecessary, harmful exposure to ionizing radiation. EPA's uses the best available science to develop risk assessment tools and guidance for cleaning up sites that are contaminated with radioactive materials. The Cleanup Program also provides technical support and expertise to EPA's Superfund Program. In addition, the Agency works cooperatively with other federal agencies that have radiation protection responsibilities to ensure that consistent site investigation and laboratory methods are used throughout the federal government.
