Julie Townsend, MS

Julie Townsend, MS, is an epidemiologist with the Scientific Support and Clinical Translation Team in the Comprehensive Cancer Control (CCC) Branch of the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control. She joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2007. Her work focuses on colorectal cancer screening, use of evidence-based interventions for cancer control, program evaluation, and skin cancer prevention programs. She provides data analysis support to the CCC Branch for various research and programmatic projects and technical assistance to programs around cancer burden data. She is the CCC Branch representative to State Cancer Profiles, the project officer for the Comprehensive Cancer Tribal Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Project, and the scientific lead for the Comprehensive Cancer Control Policy Program.

Previously, Ms. Townsend was with the Texas Department of State Health Services, where she first served as a research specialist with the Texas Trauma Registry and later as an epidemiologist in the Immunization Program. She has experience working with surveillance data and developing population-based health surveys.

Ms. Townsend has a master of science degree in epidemiology from the University of Texas School of Public Health, and a bachelor of science degree in biological sciences from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. Her thesis research focused on nutrition and testicular cancer.
