  2. Mae_tweet
#whchat #debt @whitehouse Where are signs of a recovery for The US Economy?
  3. whitehouse
.@Mae_tweet: still a long way to go, but has been improvement; 16 straight mos of job growth & 2.2mill private sector jobs added #WHchat
  4. mikehoward51
@whitehouse Why hasn't POTUS said there will be no default? Even if no debt lim incr, mnthly tax receipts far exced int due on debt. #WHChat
  5. whitehouse
.@mikehoward51: not meeting any of our obligations is a default. Would banks lend to a small biz that was delaying paying suppliers? #WHchat
  6. skydogz
@whitehouse #WHchat Why are Obama and Reid offering No plan if they don't like Boehners 3 plans?
  7. whitehouse
.@skydogz: POTUS plan: http://wh.gov/rkc Reid plan: http://www.cbo.gov/doc.cfm?index=12338. Mos w/ Ds & Rs talking. All know options, need compromise #WHchat
  8. SenatorReyes44
In the event that bipartisan compromise is established , how will the deficit become more reduced? #WHchat
  9. whitehouse
.@SenatorReyes44: Simple, cut spending + cut tax loopholes = lower deficit and debt. #WHchat
  10. kilowat
what will all of these cuts $$$ do to the economy in the years to come #WHchat
  11. whitehouse
.@kilowat: Impt that cuts are phased in over time, too fast/deep will hurt recovery & jobs. A credible, balanced plan will help. #WHchat
  12. audhilly
@whitehouse #WHchat Why not do short term deal and focus on tea party and educating public re Bush and deficit? Get a workable congress?
  13. whitehouse
.@audhilly: long-term deal impt, no one wants to repeat this again over Xmas, critical period for the economy. Should solve now. #WHchat
  14. adamlbarr
Why are we so focused on cutting government spending, when we need to be stimulating the economy to fuel the recovery? #WHchat
  15. whitehouse
.@adamlbarr: POTUS wants payroll tax cut, unemp insure extended, cannot withdraw from econ next yr. Spending cuts shld be phased in. #WHchat
  16. smittyfuel
@whitehouse It all seems so simple, then why is this taking so long? Politics seem to be dragging America straight into the ground. #WHchat
  17. whitehouse
.@smittyfuel: Often ask myself that, making numbers add up on my spreadsheet not hard. Need compromise from Congress #WHchat
  18. jpe2209
@whitehouse @skydogz pointing to facts like this when replying to questioner helps combat misinformation. Great job #WHchat !
  19. whitehouse
.@jpe2209: Thanks, my first time tweeting but sadly not my first time (or I fear my last) combatting misinformation #WHchat
  20. JLMonkeyToes
@whitehouse compromise a necessity, but is cutting back social safety nets wise while unemployment & economic disparity up? #WHchat
  21. erin_kilpatrick
@whitehouse - May be an incredibly ignorant question, but who exactly is the US indebted to? How will Ds and Rs see eye-to-eye? #WHchat
  22. whitehouse
.@erin_kilpatrick: anyone w/Treasuries. You prob do 2, through savings accts, other retirement. +frgn holders: http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/data-chart-center/tic/Documents/mfh.txt #WHchat
  23. ryan3262
@GrabBrian @adamlbarr One-time stimulus creates artificial demand. It is not sustainable. Dont give me that 'multiplier effect' crap #WHchat
  24. whitehouse
.@ryan3262: don't want to raise taxes on 150 million American workers next year, would happen if we don't extend payroll tax cut #WHchat
