On the weekend before Christmas, the United States Senate finally voted to end the military's odious "don't ask, don't tell" policy, which has barred openly gay and lesbian soldiers from serving their country. More than 13,000 members of the armed forces lost their jobs in the 17 years the policy has been in effect. The Senate's action followed similar action by the House earlier in the week, and President Obama is expected to sign the repeal of DADT this morning.
