Childhood Lead Poisoning Surveillance Objectives
Objectives of childhood lead poisoning surveillance programs at the state level are to:- Estimate the extent of elevated blood-lead levels among children.
- Assess the follow-up of children with elevated blood-lead levels.
- Examine potential sources of lead exposure.
- Help allocate resources for lead poisoning prevention activities.
- Assist states in developing laboratory-based surveillance systems for blood lead levels among children. CDC provides support for surveillance activities alone or in conjunction with prevention activities.
- Assist states in the analysis and dissemination of lead surveillance data.
- Assemble data from state systems to form a national surveillance database.
- Provide development and support of STELLAR, a software application used to track medical and environmental activities in lead poisoning cases.
