Standing Ovation for Enterprise Pilots at Intrepid Ceremony

The four NASA astronaut-pilots who flew the prototype space shuttle Enterprise during its Approach and Landing tests at NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center on Edwards Air Force Base received a standing ovation July 19 during the official turnover and unveiling ceremonies for Enterprise on the Intrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum in New York City. Navy Commander Richard Truly, Air Force Maj. Gen. Joe Engle, Fred Haise and Air Force Col. Gordon Fullerton, represented at the ceremony by his wife Marie, were honored for their pioneering work in verifying the shuttle orbiter's approach and landing capabilities and demonstrating its subsonic airworthiness.
