Science and Service Awards

Award Description

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is seeking applications from qualified opioid treatment programs (OTPs) and office-based opioid treatment (OBOT) providers for its 2012 Science and Service (SAS) Awards. For the first time, the 2012 national awards program promotes excellence in the treatment of opioid addiction by recognizing OTPs and OBOTs that have demonstrated implementation of exemplary innovative services, practices, and/or strategies, resulting in improved patient outcomes.

A maximum of 10 awards will be given, five in each category.   A panel of experts will review the applications using five specific criteria: (1) treatment population(s)/subpopulation(s) served (2) the opioid treatment innovation, (3) improved patient outcomes, (4) innovativeness, and (5) management and staff capabilities.  The OTP awards will be announced at the 2012 national conference of the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD) and the OBOT awards will be announced at the 43rd Annual Medical Scientific Conference of the American Society for Addiction Medicine (ASAM). SAS award winners will also be prominently highlighted on SAMHSA’s web.
