National Organizations
Cooperative Agreements to Improve the Health and Educational Outcomes of Young People
CDC supports 20 national nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to provide capacity-building assistance to education and health agencies, community-based organizations, institutions of higher education, and other organizations to improve health and educational outcomes among children and adolescents.
National Programs to Improve the Health and Educational Outcomes of Young People is intended to improve child and adolescent health by helping schools and communities create an environment that fosters a culture of wellness and encourages healthy choices. This program places a strong emphasis on establishing and maintaining policy, systems, and environmental change strategies across the country to achieve desired outcomes in six priority areas.
The following NGOs received funding through CDC RFA DP11–1101: National Programs to Improve the Health and Educational Outcomes of Young People:
Coordinated School Health
Promote Coordinated School Health with decision makers and opinion leaders:

Strengthen professional preparation of school health education and physical education teachers:

Sexual Health, Including Prevention of HIV, Other STDs, and Teen Pregnancy
Increase the capacity of education and health agencies to
improve sexual health among young people and prevent HIV, other STDs, and teen pregnancy:

- National Coalition of STD Directors
Increase the capacity of juvenile justice and correctional centers, alternative schools, and shelters for homeless and runaway youth to
improve sexual health among young people and prevent HIV, other STDs, and teen pregnancy:

Increase capacity of schools and community-based organizations to
meet the health and mental health needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth:
