Continuing Nurse Education

Program Description:

Seminars are designed to increase knowledge on the identification, epidemiology, management, treatment, and reporting of dengue cases.
Target Audience:  Nurse practitioners, nurse technicians, registered nurses, and licensed practical/vocational nurses.
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of human physiology, basic knowledge of human infectious disease, basic concepts of human immunology, basic ability to interpret laboratory result, basic understanding of patient care and management (clinic or hospital-based care), basic understanding of epidemiologic concepts, and basic understanding of public health infectious disease surveillance.  
Hardware/Software:  Live meeting
Format: Training seminars are conducted as live presentations
Materials:  Handouts distributed on site at the training seminar
Origination/Expiration/Renewal Dates: February 4, 2009 – February 4, 2011- February 4, 2013.
Location: Various locations in Puerto Rico

Objectives

At the conclusion of the session participants will develop:

  • Understanding of the global, hemispheric and local epidemiology of dengue
  • Ability to conduct and interpret the proper laboratory evaluation of a patient suspected of dengue infection
  • Ability to recognize and interpret clinical symptoms consistent with dengue and treat a patient suspected of dengue infection presenting at various levels of severity
  • Ability to properly report a case of suspected dengue to the local dengue surveillance system

Accreditation Statements

CNE: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited as a provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This activity provides 3.0 contact hours.

CEU: The CDC has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102.  The CDC is authorized by IACET to offer 0.3 ANSI/IACET CEU's for this program.
