Novel H1N1 Influenza Investigation

Information on the novel H1N1 influenza investigation is posted daily to the CDC website at http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu

CDC is reporting 2,600 laboratory confirmed human infections with novel H1N1 flu in 43 states and the District of Columbia (D.C.) in the United States. Three deaths in the U.S. have been confirmed from this outbreak to date. The third death occurred in the state of Washington in a 39-year old and was reported on Sunday, May 10, 2009.

Detection of Novel Influenza A (H1N1) Virus by Laboratory Testing - FDA - May 6
Laboratorians should maintain awareness of unusual findings and report inaccurate testing results or other problems to the device manufacturer and/or FDA. Health care professionals and consumers may report serious adverse events, such as inaccurate results, or product quality problems with the use of influenza detection assays to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program either online, by regular mail, fax or phone.

FDA Approves New Influenza Vaccine Production Facility - FDA - May 6
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today announced that it has approved a new manufacturing facility used to produce influenza virus vaccines. The facility is approved for seasonal influenza vaccine production and could be used for the production of vaccine against the new 2009 H1N1 influenza strain.

Travel Warning: Novel H1N1 Flu and Severe Cases of Respiratory Illness in Mexico - Avoid Nonessential Travel to Mexico - CDC - May 9
The Government of Mexico is continuing to report confirmed human cases of novel H1N1 flu in Mexico. For the most current case count and information, see the updates posted on the World Health Organization (WHO) Influenza A (H1N1) website. Experts from WHO, the Global Alert and Response Network (GOARN), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are working with health authorities in Mexico to investigate the spread and severity of the novel H1N1 flu outbreak in Mexico.
