The U.S. AbilityOne Commission administers the AbilityOne Program a unique employment program sponsored by the Federal Government serving the needs of people who are blind or have other significant disabilities. The Commission administers the program through two Central Nonprofit Agencies (CNAs), National Industries for the Blind (NIB), and NISH - Creating Employment Opportunities for People with Significant Disabilities. In turn, the CNAs match government contracts with local nonprofit agencies (NPAs) across the country that employ people who are blind or have other significant disabilities. The ultimate aim of the program is to eliminate the unacceptably high unemployment for these Americans. Currently, the AbilityOne Program employs more than 50,000 people with significant disabilities, including 3,300 veterans.
