United States Mint to Present Designs for New 24-Karat Bullion Coins, 2007 Presidential $1 Coins,
2007 50 State Quarters Program® and 2007 Jamestown Commemorative Coin
The United States Mint will present design candidates for four major coin programs at the January
24, 2006 Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) public meeting at 9:30 a.m. at United States
Mint Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the meeting is to conduct business associated
with the CCAC’s responsibility to advise the Secretary of the Treasury on themes and designs
pertaining to United States coinage.
Topics:
-
Presentation of designs for the United States Mint’s new one-ounce 24-karat gold bullion
investment coin. Title II of the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 requires the Secretary of the
Treasury to use the James Earle Fraser "Buffalo" and "Indian Head" images from
the Buffalo Nickel (1913-1938) during the first year of issuance of this $50 new 24-karat gold
coin, which will be offered in both proof and uncirculated qualities.
-
Presentation of the proposed designs for the 2007 Presidential $1 Coins. Designs for the obverse
(heads side) of the first four Presidential Dollars of 2007 will be considered. Images of the
Presidents will be derived from the United States Mint’s Presidential Medals, dating back to the
earliest days of the Republic.
-
Presentation of the candidate designs for the 2007 quarter-dollars in the 50 State Quarters®
Program. The United States Mint will present 19 proposed images for the new quarters that will
represent Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. These designs were submitted by Designers
in the United States Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program and by United States Mint sculptor/engravers.
-
Presentation of 46 candidate designs for the obverse and reverse of $5 gold coins and $1 silver
coins for the Jamestown 400th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program to be issued in 2007. These
designs were submitted by Designers in the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program and by
United States Mint sculptor/engravers. Surcharges for this program to commemorate the first
permanent English settlement in America are authorized to be paid to the Jamestown-Yorktown
