Lymphoma SPOREs

American Cancer Society estimates 75,190 new case of lymphoma in 2011. Of these, 66,360 are expected to be non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and 8,830 cases will be in Hodgkin's disease.  According to estimates, 19,320 people will die of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and 1,300 of Hodgkin's disease in the year 2011. Since 1970, the incidence of lymphomas has nearly doubled. A stabilization of this trend in the years 1992-98 was observed (except in black females) and there has been a decline of Hodgkin's disease incidence since the late 1980's. Despite these favorable trends, lymphomas remain a serious medical problem affecting thousands of individuals. The SPORE program introduced lymphoma SPOREs in 2001 and currently five SPORE grants are funded for lymphoma research.
