Media Advisory — Census Bureau to Host Public Ceremony to Swear In New Director

What:
Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke will conduct the public swearing in of Robert Groves as the 23rd director of the U.S. Census Bureau.

Following the ceremony, at 10:30 a.m., the new Census Bureau director will host a panel discussion about the 2010 Census with seven former directors -- Vincent Barabba, John Keane, Barbara Bryant, Martha Riche, Kenneth Prewitt, Louis Kincannon and Steve Murdock.

Groves served as an associate director at the Census Bureau from 1990 to 1992.

Arriving via Metrorail: The Metro provides the most convenient access to the Census Bureau. The Census Bureau headquarters building is located adjacent to the Suitland Metrorail (Green Line).

Arriving by Car: Enter from Silver Hill Road through Main Gate 5 (see map) to arrive at Visitor's Pass Center. Visitor's parking is limited, so please arrive early. Additional parking will be available within walking distance. Visitor's vehicles entering Suitland Federal Center are subject to inspection upon entry.
Security:
Photo identification is required for admission to the Census Bureau. Foreign nationals must contact the Public Information Office to obtain a special security clearance form.

**Please allow at least 30 minutes for security check-in, longer for broadcast media with equipment.**
