Summary

The U.S. EPA invites interested stakeholders to participate in a laboratory-based technical workshop that will focus on several key test methods for evaluating the efficacy of disinfectants. The agency is encouraging participation from a cross-section of affected parties including industry, federal and state partners, and testing laboratories.

The sessions will cover the AOAC Confirmative in vitro Test for Determining Tuberculocidal Activity (AOAC Official Method 965.12 II) and the new Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Quantitative Method for Evaluating Bactericidal Activity of Microbicides Used on Hard Non-porous Surfaces.

Demonstrations and training will be conducted in a laboratory setting on the revised Use-dilution method (AOAC Official Methods 955.15 and 964.02) and the new proposed ASTM Quantitative Petri Dish (QPM) method for evaluating the efficacy of antimicrobial wipes. In addition, editorial and procedural revisions to other efficacy test methods will be discussed. The results from the recent collaborative study on the OECD method will also be covered. Stakeholders are expected to actively participate by providing relevant data and sharing their experiences working with these test methods.

This is a technical meeting for individuals with experience in conducting antimicrobial test methods or who plan to conduct these methods in the future.

Participants must be knowledgeable of Biosafety Level II and III safety practices and procedures for working in a laboratory in order to participate in the laboratory demonstrations and training.
