Overview

The Business R&D and Innovation Survey (BRDIS) is conducted jointly by the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Science Foundation (NSF).

  • The goal of the survey is to collect a variety of data on the R&D activities of companies operating in the United States which will be useful to decision makers in both the public and private sectors.
  • This survey replaces the Survey of Industrial Research and Development (SIRD), which has been the official federal source of data on R&D in the business sector since the 1950s.
