President Barack Obama announced his intention to nominate Eric H. Holder, Jr. as the 82nd Attorney General of the United States on December 1, 2008. He was sworn in by Vice President Joe Biden on February 3, 2009. Holder was named by President Clinton to be the Deputy Attorney General in 1997, becoming the first African American named to the post. Prior to that, he served as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. Holder was nominated by President Reagan to become an Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia in 1988. As a student at Columbia Law School, he clerked at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the DOJ's Criminal Division. Upon graduating, he moved to Washington and joined the DOJ as part of the Attorney General's Honors Program. He was assigned to the newly formed Public Integrity Section in 1976 and was tasked to investigate and prosecute official corruption on the local, state, and federal levels.

Thomas J. Perrelli, Associate Attorney General of the U.S. Department of Justice

Thomas Perrelli was sworn in on March 12, 2009, as the Associate Attorney General of the U.S. Department of Justice. Perrelli previously served in the depart­ment as Counsel to Attorney General Janet Reno (1997–1999) and as Deputy Assis­tant Attorney General in heading up the Civil Division's Federal Programs Branch (1999–2001). In private practice, Perrelli worked for the national litigation firm of Jenner & Block LLP, where he co-chaired the firm's Entertainment and New Media practice group and served as managing partner of its Washington, D.C., office (1992–1997, 2001–2009). He served as a law clerk for Hon. Royce C. Lamberth on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (1991–1992). Perrelli graduated from Brown University and the Harvard Law School, where he was managing editor of the Harvard Law Review.

Gregory J. Boyle, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Homeboy Industries

Gregory J. Boyle, an ordained Jesuit priest, is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Homeboy Industries. Known as Father G by the homeboys/homegirls, Homeboy Industries traces its roots to "Jobs For A Future" (JFF), a program created by Boyle while serving as pastor of the Dolores Mission parish. In an effort to address the escalating problems and unmet needs of gang-involved youth, Boyle and the community developed positive alternatives, including an elementary school and a day care program and finding legitimate employment for young people. JFF's success demonstrated the model followed today that many gang members are eager to leave the dangerous and destructive life on the "streets." In 2009 the Los Angeles Headquarters Association honored Boyle as one of the city's leading visionaries responsible for changing the face of Los Angeles.

Kenneth R. Feinberg, Administrator, Gulf Coast Claims Facility

Kenneth R. Feinberg was designated by the Obama Administration and British Petroleum to serve as Administrator of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility in 2010. He was appointed by the Secretary of the Treasury in 2009 to serve as the Special Master for Troubled Asset Relief Program Executive Compensation. In this capacity, he was responsible for determining annual compensation packages for senior corporate officials at companies that received the most taxpayer financial assistance. He was also appointed by the Attorney General of the United States to serve as the Special Master of the Federal September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001. Feinberg is an attorney and one of the nation's leading experts in mediation and alternative dispute resolution and is the managing partner of Feinberg Rozen, LLP.

Bernard K. Melekian, Director, COPS Office

Bernard Melekian is the Director of the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), elected by Attorney General Eric Holder on October 5, 2009. As Director of the COPS Office, Melekian leads an organization responsible for working closely with the nation's state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies to enhance the safety of our communities by advancing com­munity policing. Melekian is committed to using COPS Office programs and resources to help law enforcement build relationships and solve problems, which are the basic building blocks of community policing. Melekian was the police chief for the City of Pasadena, California, for more than 13 years before assuming leadership of the COPS Office. Prior to that he served with the Santa Monica Police Department and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office for 23 years. While serv­ing with Santa Monica Police Department, he was awarded the Medal of Valor in 1978 and the Medal of Courage in 1980.
