Don’t forget to plan for National Public Lands Day

National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 29. is the largest, hands-on volunteer effort to improve America’s public lands. There are a variety of events on national forests and grasslands. Check out the list and join us and roughly 170,000 other volunteers to feel a sense of shared stewardship and to learn about the importance of natural resources. As part of the day, the Forest Service willwaive standard amenity fees.

Latin roots help Forest Service employee grow interest in natural resources among young people

Fabian Garcia, a Forest Service employee for eight years, intimately understands the connection between nature and nurture. Raised in central California where he worked and played in the outdoors, Garcia now works with young people in Los Angeles to connect them to nature.






Jaime Hernandez Faces of the Forest: Meet Jaime Hernandez

Meet Jaime Hernandez, a biomass forester at Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area in Western Kentucky and Tennessee. He was drawn to forestry as a Job Corps student. Love of the great outdoors and sheer determination led him to a forestry degree and career. As a graduate of the Forest Service Middle Leader program, he uses the knowledge he has gained to mentor other aspiring foresters
