Workshops on Violence Against Women/Family Violence

Teen Dating Violence Workshop Proceedings

NIJ has held two meetings about research related to teen dating violence.

  1. On July 24 – 25, 2006, workshop attendees discussed the research needs related to teen dating violence and made recommendations for future research and prevention and intervention programs. Read a Summary of the July 2006 Teen Dating Violence Workshop.
  2. On December 4 – 5, 2007, attendees listened and reacted to presentations focused on research frameworks for understanding teen dating violence and programs. Workshop on Predisposition Revictimization in Cases of Violence Against Women

On January 31 – February 1, 2005, workshop attendees explored the revictimization that occurs in the period between arrest and case disposition in cases of violence against women. Workshop on Safety and Accountability Audits

On October 26, 2004, workshop attendees discussed ideas regarding the Safety and Accountability Audit, a research approach that uses institutional ethnography to identify changes in policy or practice that may be needed to address violence against women. Addressing Violence in Criminal Justice Practice Workshop

On January 21 – 22, 2004, workshop attendees discussed ways to reduce violence and how to better ensure that criminal justice policies and practices minimize violence in communities. Violence Theory Workshop

On December 10 – 11, 2002, workshop attendees discussed violence theory, possible links between violence theories, and implications for future research. A Summary of the Violence Theory Workshop is available, which also lists the workshop attendees.

Batterer Intervention: Where Do We Go From Here?

On January 17, 2002, workshop attendees discussed the state of knowledge about batterer intervention, identified gaps in the research, and developed research ideas to propel the field forward. The workshop Summary for Batterer Intervention: Where Do We Go From Here? presents the main conversation.

Broadening Our Understanding of Violence Against Women Among Racial, Ethnic and Cultural Minorities

On October 11 – 12, 2001, workshop attendees explored what is known and unknown about the dynamics of violence experienced by women from diverse communities and how criminal justice and social science providers can better respond. Workshop to Evaluate Violence Against Women Act Programs

On December 15, 2000, workshop attendees discussed the impact of VAWA programs toward the safety of women and the accountability of offenders. The Summary of Workshop to Evaluate Violence Against Women Act Programs gives an overview of the plenary sessions and details from the small group sessions. Gender Symmetry Workshop

On November 20, 2000, workshop attendees helped shape the research agenda on the issue of gender symmetry in intimate partner violence measurement. The Gender Symmetry Workshop Summary presents the main conversation.
