Explore Military Compensation

Military pay can seem complicated, but it essentially comes from two sources: base pay and special pays. Base pay is the same across all Service branches, and increases are based on rank and time in service. While not a guarantee of exact compensation, this compensation estimator should give you an idea of the salary and benefits you might earn as an active-duty servicemember.

To get started, answer a few questions about yourself.

Will you have a 4-year college degree before entering the Service?

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university qualifies you for officer commission. An ROTC program or Officer Training School is also required.

Do you have a spouse or children?

Your family status affects how much of a housing allowance you will receive.

Will you have an advanced medical degree before entering the Service?

Medical training may qualify you for certain bonus pays. Pick the level of training that most closely matches yours.
