Privacy and Security Introduction

The privacy and security of USASpending.gov customers are of utmost importance. Per our own policy for personal privacy, we will collect no personal information about you during your visit to our site unless you choose to provide that information via web-based form to provide site feedback.

Internet Security Policy

For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, this government computer system employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this service are strictly prohibited and may be punishable by law.

Information Collected and Stored Automatically

If you do nothing during your visit but browse through the website, read pages, or download information, we will gather and store certain information about your visit automatically. This information does not identify you personally. We automatically collect and store only the following information about your visit:

  1. The Internet domain (for example, "xcompany.com" if you use a private Internet access account, or "yourschool.edu" if you connect from a university's domain) and IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web) from which you access our website;
  2. The type of browser and operating system used to access our site;
  3. The date and time you access our site;
  4. The pages you visit; and
  5. If you linked to the USAspending website from another website, the address of that website.

We use this information to help us make our site more useful to visitors -- to learn about the number of visitors to our site and the types of technology our visitors use. We do not track or record information about individuals and their visits.

Privacy and Correspondence via E-mail

When you send us personally identifying information (i.e., by sending an electronic mail message containing a question or comment, or by filling out a site-form that e-mails us this information), we use this information to respond to your requests. We may forward your e-mail to other Government employees who are better able to answer your questions. The information you provide is not given to any private organizations or private persons. We do not collect or use information for commercial marketing.

We want to make it clear that we will not obtain personally identifying information about you when you visit our site, unless you choose to provide such information to us.

Links to Other Sites

Our website has links to other federal agency websites. Once you link to another site, you are subject to the privacy policy of the new site

All prime awardee data as reported by agencies. The assistance prime awardee data includes agency submissions as of 09/12/2012 and the contracts prime awardee data includes procurement data downloaded from FPDS as of 09/11/2012. Please note that availability of DOD contracts prime awardee data is delayed by 90 days to protect operations tempo. All Sub-awardee data is based on prime awardee submissions from FSRS, for sub-contracts as of 09/11/2012 and for sub-grants as of 09/11/2012. The quality procurement data is maintained by the federal agencies by annual verification and validation of their data in FPDS. For more information on how the quality is maintained and what the government is doing in ensuring the quality please see (PDF).
