    From September 11-14, 2012, International Information Programs (IIP) Officer Charles (Chuck) Corey visited U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa and the U.S. Mission to the African Union (USAU) for informational meetings and engagement with key contacts in Ethiopia and the African Union (AU). Mr. Corey’s visit also allowed him the opportunity to assess the overall impact of U.S. public diplomacy (PD) communications efforts in the region.

    Ambassador Battle Talks to French Journalists

    On April 26, 2012 U.S. Mission to the African Union (USAU) Ambassador Michael Battle spoke with French journalists during his visit to Paris to participate in the African Partnership Forum. The Ambassador discussed U.S. engagement with the African Union, the crisis between Sudan and South Sudan, and the situations in Mali and Guinea-Bissau following the destabilizing coups in both countries.

    ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – On April 21, an interview with United States Mission to the African Union (USAU) Ambassador Michael Battle and Africa Unbound founder Rahel Kassahun will air in Ethiopia and several neighboring countries. During the interview, the two discussed the similarities between the Civil Rights Movement in the United States and the Arab Uprising of 2011.

    Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton met with the Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Abdoulie Janneh. Secretary Clinton presented Mr. Janneh with letters of accreditation, officially designating the U.S. Ambassador to the AU, Michael A. Battle, as a Permanent Representative to UNECA with observer status.
