Welcome to a place where miracles can happen, where students can reach well beyond their expectations, a place where "what if" becomes "I can." This is the nation’s most comprehensive education, rehabilitation and employment system serving children and adults who are deaf, blind and multidisabled with a myriad of programs designed just for them. For more than a century and a half, AIDB has been investing in the lives of thousands of infants, toddlers, children, adults and seniors who are challenged by hearing and vision loss. With five campuses and eight regional centers throughout Alabama, AIDB’s business is personal. Here is our story ...

JSU study cites $184 million impact on Talladega

At AIDB, our business is personal.

In a 2012 Economic Impact Study, conducted by Jacksonville State University (JSU) Center for Economic Development and Business Research, researchers noted that AIDB’s 1,100 statewide employee base made it the largest employer in Talladega City, and the second largest in Talladega County. AIDB’s annual gross payroll is $49.9 million, adding vibrancy to the local economy as outlined below and in the brochure (click here).

Impacting local businesses, AIDB employees and students spent an estimated $61.4 million directly in Talladega County in 2011 with each dollar spent, re-invested into the local economy at least three times. The bottom line:  A total economic impact of $184 million in Talladega County alone.

Generating $19.9 million in local tax revenue –including property and sales tax— AIDB, its employees and the business they generate, also expands the local credit base by $33 million. In fact, employee and student spending accounts for $27.8 million in housing and utilities; food; automobiles, repairs and maintenance; personal, business and other services; medical; household furnishings and retail; entertainments and charitable contributions.

In a time when the jobs outlook is strained, AIDB’s presence –its employees, students and consumers—stimulate the resources for thousands of jobs in Talladega County retail, restaurants, service, medical and real estate industries.

Since 1858, AIDB’s impact has been profoundly measured through the successes of thousands of children and adults who are deaf, blind and multidisabled. Yet, the role of AIDB business activity can also inspire as with AIDB, business is personal.
Graham Announces Retirement - Search begun for New President

Lynwood French, Chairman of the AIDB Board of Trustees, said the Board, which recently gave Dr. Graham an exceptional evaluation, will regret the loss of his leadership and insight. “Dr. Graham has led AIDB well through some very tough economic years and enabled us to grow an even stronger and more diverse program.”

“We will begin an open and objective nationwide search process to select a successor for Dr. Graham,” said French. “We will be looking for someone that can carry on our tradition of successful services for the deaf and blind children and adults of Alabama, who can build on our solid foundation and continue to move AIDB forward.”

The position announcement calls for someone to serves as Chief Executive Officer of AIDB with responsibility for all operations, budget, personnel, and all policies and procedures.
