Picture Permit Imprint Indicia

  

Picture Permit Imprint Indicia is a new offering that provides commercial mailers with the opportunity to creatively add value to their mailpiece. You can customize your permit indicia by incorporating a logo, brand images, or trademarks along with required information. This provides immediate recognition of your company’s logo, products, promotions, and brands, which could improve the effectiveness of the overall mailing.

Requirements

  • Logos, brand images, or trademarks
  • Color images only
  • Full-service automation Intelligent Mail® barcode
  • Nominal per piece fee in addition to postage
  • Application, design approval, and sampling in advance

This offering is available for presort First-Class Mail® and Standard Mail® letters and cards. The extra fee for Picture Permit First-Class Mail letters and cards is 1 cent per piece and for Standard Mail letters and cards, the fee is 2 cents per piece.

Customer Application Process

Anyone can register to receive a Picture Permit application, but before you can complete the application process, you must have an approved Mailing Permit (PS Form 3615).

Step 1:  Get started by reviewing the program guidelines and requirements. Then, complete the online registration process.

Step 2: After registering, you’ll receive a link to complete the online Picture Permit application, (PS Form 3615-A), which requires permit indicia and other information. Submit the signed copy to picturepermit@usps.com.

 

Step 3: When the Program Management Office (PMO) confirms your application has been approved, you will need to submit a PDF copy of the addressed mailpiece (showing envelope/card dimensions, IMb™, clear zone, and proposed Picture Permit design) to picturepermit@usps.com.

 

Step 4:  When the PDF copy of the proposed design passes PMO review, you will receive directions to develop and submit 500 hard copy mailpieces containing the approved design. These mailpieces must be exactly the same as the mailpieces you intend to put into the mailstream.

The following information is required on each sample mailpiece…

  • Complete "live" address of the intended recipients
  • Complete return address of the sender
  • Picture Permit Imprint Indicia
  • Full-Service Intelligent Mail® barcode (IMb)

USPS® Engineering, Operations, and Acceptance will then test the designed mailpieces. Once the mailer passes these tests, the PMO will request a mailing schedule, including dates and volumes.

The tests take approximately 30–45 days.
