Description
The mission of the Hepatitis Foundation International (HFI) is to educate the public, patients, and professionals about the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of viral hepatitis and other preventable liver diseases. HFI serves as an advocate for patients and the medical community worldwide. HFI conducts Foundation For Decision Making education and train-the-trainer programs for healthcare professionals, social workers, counselors, educators and the public. It promotes preventive education and healthy lifestyles with its award winning videos and materials on liver wellness and the prevention of hepatitis and substance abuse. The Foundation collaborates with SAMHSA, CDC, OMH, other government and non-government agencies, the corporate community and lay organizations to encourage their participation in Partners in Liver Wellness, a multifaceted hepatitis and substance abuse prevention initiative. HFI has a database of support groups across the nation and maintains a support network by phone.

www.HepatitisFoundation.org features information in several languages on viral hepatitis, brochures, posters, Foundation For Decision Making Teachers Guide, booklets and other teaching tools, and coloring books for children. Videos are available for adolescents in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin and Korean and a special version for African American youth on liver wellness and prevention of hepatitis. Additional videos are available for high risk populations, The Invisible Threat, and one for a general audience on blood borne pathogens/liver wellness to comply with OSHA's educational requirements. A half hour video is available on hepatitis C and another on hepatitis A, B and C for a lay audience. The most recent production for teenagers, called Give Your Liver A Break, received an Emmy award. The Silent Stalker is a powerful adult version promoting prevention of viral hepatitis, HIV, and substance abuse and is currently being used in STI clinics and prisons.
