Peggy McNamara

Peggy McNamara, MSPH, is a Senior Fellow at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, a US government Agency with mission to improve the quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of health care for all Americans. Ms. McNamara leads the Agency's technical assistance program for local quality collaboratives—Chartered Value Exchanges—pursing an agenda of quality reporting and previously managed the Agency's Quality-based Purchasing Learning Network. Ms. McNamara developed and manages the Agency's pay-for-performance portfolio. Her research interests include a special focus on how health sector stakeholders, and in particular purchasers, promote quality of care. Previous experience spans policy appointments at Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, American Hospital Association and New Jersey State Department of Health. Recent international projects include work with the US Agency for International Development, World Bank, Project HOPE, World Health Organization, Institute of Medicine's Board on Global Health, and Economic and Social Research Institute of Ireland.

Ms. McNamara's work has appeared in journals, including Health Affairs, International Journal for Quality in Health Care, Medical Care Research and Review, and International Journal of Health Care Finance and Economics, and she has contributed to two books. She frequently speaks before national policy and practice groups as well as audiences in Europe, Africa, and Asia. Ms. McNamara earned her masters in public health from the University of North Carolina, where she was awarded a U.S. Public Health Service Traineeship. She was awarded a Pew Fellowship to pursue doctoral work at the University of Michigan's School of Public Health
