Courses presented at NFA are equal in difficulty to those at the college/university level. Although the Academy itself is not an accredited institution, completed NFA courses may contribute credits toward a college degree program. Students should be aware, however, that not all colleges/universities accept these credits.
The American Council on Education/College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) has evaluated and recommended college credit for NFA courses. ACE, the major coordinating body for all the Nation's higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives.
NFA course descriptions include the ACE recommendation for credit hours, curricula, and level. Newly developed courses not included in the previous ACE review receive credit equivalency evaluations after the next annual review. At that time, the students who have already completed the course become eligible for credit for that course.

Through the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), NFA is awarding CEUs for successful completion of NFA Sponsored on-campus, off-campus, and online courses. The CEU is a standard unit of measure, with one CEU representing ten contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education/training experience. The CEUs will be printed on the student's end-of-course certificate, so they will have immediate documentation of their work. Please note that CEUs cannot be granted for on-campus courses taken before October 1, 2008.
Through the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS), effective January 1, 2010, the NFA is awarding continuing education (CE) credits for its 10-day and 6-day residential EMS courses. The CE is a standard unit of measure, with one CE representing 1 contact hour of participation in an organized continuing education/training experience, identified by topic area. Specific information on CEs is included in the course description in this catalog under the heading "CECBEMS CE."
