The Advanced Mass Spectrometry Core assists NIDDK’s investigators with a wide group of mass spectrometry applications, including basic quality control, general problem-solving during the development of complex experimental approaches, and discovery work, where mass spectrometers are involved directly in obtaining important answers for a project.

There are three specific areas of support. Staff members provide minimal training to researchers so they may use the two self-serve instruments maintained by the facility at their convenience. Facility members also perform high-accuracy mass measurements using specialized instrumentation in support of synthetic and natural products chemists. Finally, two staff members operate advanced hybrid mass spectrometers, which are used primarily for complex protein sample analysis. Potential users are encouraged to coordinate with the facility early in planning a project to take advantage of the facility’s strengths.
