A request for comments regarding a petition to amend NARA's Office of the Federal Register rules governing the incorporation by reference of materials into the Code of Federal Regulations. March 9, 2012 – Announcing a free NIST public workshop, Conformity Assessment – Approaches and Best Practices, on Wednesday, April 11, 2012.  The workshop will gather information with regards to the Guidance on Federal Conformity Assessment Activities (15 C.F.R. February 1, 2012 - New Report Outlines Key Features of Next-Generation Public Safety Communications


A federal advisory committee composed of business and academic leaders provided a series of recommendations to guide the development of a next-generation public safety communications network. The Visiting Committee on Advanced Technology (VCAT) which reviews and makes policy recommendations to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issued this report to "spawn further focused discussion and action." The VCAT advised that such a network include interoperable voice, video and data transmissions available to all first responders, and recommended entrusting one non-governmental, non-profit organization with leading the development of standards supporting the creation of this network.
