This medal is a bronzeduplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to Arnold Palmer at a ceremony in the U.S. Capitol Building September 12, 2012, in recognition of his service to the Nation in promoting excellence and good sportsmanship in golf. The medal measures three inches in diameter and is the same diameter and thickness as the original gold medal.
The obverse, designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart, features an image of Arnold Palmer finishing his golf swing with the inscription ARNOLD D. PALMER.
The reverse depicts a pair of crossed golf clubs and a golf ball on a tee with the inscriptions IN RECOGNITION OF HIS SERVICE TO THE NATION IN PROMOTING EXCELLENCE AND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP, 92 PROFESSIONAL GOLF VICTORIES and 7 MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Arnold Palmer is a world famous golfer and highly successful business executive. His magnetic personality and unfailing sense of kindness and thoughtfulness have endeared him to millions throughout the world. On June 3, 2008, the United States Golf Association honored him with the opening of the Arnold Palmer Center for Golf History. His many accomplishments include:
Won 92 championships in professional competition of national or international stature, 62 of which were on the Professional Golf Association Tour.
Received numerous honors including virtually every national award in golf as well as the Hickok Professional Athlete of the Year and Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year. He was chosen Athlete of the Decade for the 1960s in a national Associated Press poll.
Served his country for three years in the U.S Coast Guard.
Received many honors outside the sporting world including the Patriot Award of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, the Golden Plate award of the American Academy of Achievement and the U.S. Navy Memorial Lone SailorAward.
Served as Honorary National Chairman of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation for 20 years.
Played a major role in fundraising drives that led to the creation of the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Fla., and the Latrobe Area Hospital Charitable Foundation in his western Pennsylvania hometown.
