About the NHLBI SBIR/STTR Program 

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs are engines of innovation for developing and commercializing novel technologies and products to promote the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart, lung, blood, and sleep diseases and disorders. The NHLBI provides grant and contract funding opportunities to support small businesses performing research and development on technologies related to the mission of NHLBI.

What's New?

2013 Annual Contract Solicitation published: The NHLBI has nine topics in this year's solicitation, ranging from sleep to transfusion medicine and from MRI-compatible devices to nanotechnology. You can see all of our topics and the details of how to apply on our Annual Contracts page. The submission date is November 13, 2012.

2012 SBIR/STTR National Conference: Please join us for this year's SBIR/STTR National Conferenceimage of external link icon November 13-15 in Portland, OR. We will be available during the one-on-one sessions to offer advice about the NHLBI SBIR/STTR programs, funding opportunities, and resources.

Intellectual Property Assessment Tool for the USPTO: The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has unveiled an Intellectual Property Awareness Assessment Tool, a web-based tool designed to assess intellectual property (IP) knowledge and provide personalized training resources for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and inventors. NIH Start-up Exclusive Licensing: NIH has developed a new short-term exclusive Start-Up Evaluation License Agreement (Start-up EELA) and a Start-up Exclusive Commercial License Agreement (Start-up ECLA) to facilitate licensing of intramural NIH and Food and Drug Administrative (FDA) inventions to start-up companies.
