Employing Youth in the Clean Energy Economy

Our nation’s ability to manage and preserve its lands for future generations depends upon the career choices America’s young people make today.  The Youth Conservation Corps, Student Career Experience Program, Student Temporary Employment Program employed over 8,000 youth, ages 25 and under, to preserve our history and restore our environment. The programs provide hands-on training for young people to learn the skills they need to take advantage of green job opportunities and careers in the 21st Century.

The Conservation Corps Network provides opportunities for young adults from diverse backgrounds to work on conservation projects such as maintenance and construction, habitat management, and visitor services. Corps members learn about potential career pathways and enjoy mentoring, training, and leadership development opportunities. The Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) program provides young people with a chance to work together, earn money, gain marketable job skills and learn about the park and its significant resources and the need to protect those resources.  Participants receive on-the-job skills training through projects such as native plant restoration, horticultural methods, facility maintenance and Integrated Pest Management strategies.
