Climate and Land Use - Tidal Creek Habitats: Sentinels of Coastal Health

Tidal Creeks

The Tidal Creek Habitats tool provides public access to data collected from sentinel habitats (e.g., tidal creeks). These sentinel habitats can provide an early warning of ensuing harm to a larger system. Additional information can be found in the background.

Geographic Range: The current tool includes data collected from tidal creeks in the southeastern United States (e.g., Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina) and information related to that data (e.g., background, descriptions of the parameters measured, publications, videos). Over the coming year, data collected from tidal creeks in the Gulf of Mexico will also be added.

Tidal Creek Habitats: Sentinels of Coastal Health - Information Booklet
This booklet describes the relationships between coastal development and these sensitive habitats that form the connection between people, estuaries and the ocean.

The data can be accessed using one of two tools:
Data Explorer Map Tool – Interactive Map
Use this tool to spatially view the summaries of data throughout the SE by toggling between various data types and parameters. Parameters are categorized by scientifically established thresholds.

Data Retrieval Tool – Table Format
Use this tool to view and download data of interest for each tidal creek sampled. Data types include water quality (point measurements), sediment quality, biological data, continuous water quality, and watershed attributes.
