Status: Ongoing Building: House Office Buildings

The West House Underground Garage (WHUG) Interior Rehabilitation project will replace the deteriorated structural concrete and upgrade the fire protection, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The structural repairs will be completed using the hydro-demolition method which uses high-pressured water to blast through deteriorated concrete. This method exposes the concrete to a specified depth and also allows the replacement of corroded reinforcing steel. Status: Ongoing Building: United States Capitol
The AOC has been working with the United States Senate over the past few years to oversee professional conservators to restore the Brumidi Corridors to their original appearance. Beginning in August 2012, the “Zodiac Corridor” will undergo this restoration for period of approximately 10 months. When complete the corridor will be reopened for viewing. More »
Status: Completed Building: United States Capitol
The Dome of the U.S. Capitol Building, one of America’s great symbols of freedom, is currently being rehabilitated as part of an on-going multi-phased restoration program. In the current phase, the Architect of the Capitol is removing lead paint on the exterior and interior surfaces of the Dome skirt. More »

Status: Planned Building: Capitol Power Plant
The Architect of the Capitol (AOC) completed a Long Term Strategic Energy Plan for the Capitol Power Plant (CPP), which identified cogeneration as the preferred solution for achieving energy savings, reducing environmental impacts, and maintaining a reliable source of chilled water and steam for Congress and the Supreme Court. The planned Cogeneration Plant at the CPP will use natural gas in a combustion turbine in order to efficiently generate both electricity and heat for steam. More »
