Our Mission
The mission of Morris Village is to provide effective treatment of chemical dependence through comprehensive evaluation, safe detoxification, and state-of-the-art treatment services. Our staff respects the dignity and rights of patients and promotes their return to normal, productive lives in their communities. We are committed to professionalism, quality and excellence.
Purpose
The purpose of the treatment program is to provide treatment for persons requiring inpatient level of care for alcohol and other drug addiction, and when indicated, treatment for co-morbid psychiatric illnesses.
Our Facility
Morris Village is a 160-bed inpatient addiction treatment facility of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. It is a specialized hospital licensed by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and accredited by The Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF).
Our Treatment Services
Morris Village provides evaluation, detoxification, crisis stabilization and treatment of chemical dependence. Services include medical care, group therapy, activity therapy, family education and therapy, ropes course, preparation for Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA), relapse prevention planning and case management. A typical day for patients includes community meetings, addiction education, group therapy, recovery dynamics, AA Big Book study, activity therapy, and AA and NA meetings. Chaplains conduct non-denominational worship services on Sundays.
Our Staff
Five treatment teams provide treatment services on the Morris Village campus. The teams are composed of intake counselors, social workers, case manager/counselors, nurses, activity therapists and vocational counselors who conduct evaluation, education and therapy. Psychological testing assessment is available, and a team of physicians and nurses provide 24-hour medical coverage.
Referral and Admission:
Morris Village receives referrals from the community mental health centers, local alcohol and drug abuse authorities, probate courts and private agencies and accepts three types of admissions: voluntary, judicial (by order of a probate court) and emergency (by examination and affidavit of a licensed physician).
Eligibility:
To qualify for admission, individuals must meet diagnostic criteria for substance dependence as defined by the DSM IV and be appropriate for admission according to the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria. Special programs are available for individuals with a dual diagnosis, women, and persons 55 years of age and older. South Carolina residents over the age of 18 are eligible for admission to Morris Village.
In cooperation with the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute, Morris Village operates a program for adolescents on their campus.

3:00 - 3:30 P.M. Family Therapy Classes with patients and visitors
3:30 - 4:30 P.M. Supervised family visitation
