Quantum Electronics and Photonics Division

Welcome

The mission of the Quantum Electronics and Photonics Division is to provide industry, and its suppliers and customers, with comprehensive and technically advanced measurement capabilities and standards, as well as traceability to those standards. Newly created in 2011 by the merger of the Optoelectronics Division and Quantum Devices Group, the Division is comprised of three Groups focused on five major areas: laser radiometry, advanced detector technology, quantum information and computing, optical and electrical waveform metrology, and quantum-based standards. The Division also operates a comprehensive micro/nano-fabrication facility to create unique devices that advance measurement science, standards, and services. Our focus on a targeted set of technical areas enables us to maximize impact and benefit from collaboration among our projects and with industry, government, and university stakeholders.

With the VANTA structures, NIST researchers have achieved near unity absorption over an unprecedented broad wavelength range - from visible to far infrared.
