September 11th Congressional Remembrance Ceremony
Members of Congress honor the victims of the September 11th, 2001, attacks.
Members of the United States House and Senate gathered on the East Front of the U.S. Capitol for this year’s Congressional Remembrance Ceremony in observance of the September 11, 2001, attacks.
Congressional leaders delivered brief remarks to a solemn crowd of staff and visitors who had gathered for the event. “Today we listen, and we vow never to forget,” House Speaker John Boehner said. “To celebrate the greater good that comes from serving one another and standing shoulder to shoulder.”House Remembrance Website
On September 11th, 2001, thousands of people, including Members, staff and visitors, evacuated the U.S. Capitol and surrounding buildings. Images, reactions and retrospectives from that day have been compiled by the Office of the House Historian and are available online.
