EPA Grant Competition Forecast for Calendar Year 2012
EPA is committed to making it easier for communities to access our grant resources. Here, for the first time, is a calendar of 2012 grant opportunities that may be of particular interest to communities. We will update this information annually. In addition, we offer a Grants 101 Tutorial to assist communities in understanding the grants process.

Regional Indoor Environments: Reducing Public Exposure to Indoor Pollutants
Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number for the competition: 66.034
Description: The Indoor Environments program supports projects to conduct demonstration, training, education and/or outreach activities to reduce exposure to indoor air contaminants and yield measurable environmental outcomes, primarily in homes and schools. Projects activities will be carried out at the regional, state, or local level within the ten EPA regions.

Source Reduction Assistance Grant Program
Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number for the competition: 66.717
Description: The SRA program supports environmental projects that reduce or eliminate pollution at the source. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit proposals that demonstrate new, innovative techniques, surveys, or studies that use research, investigations, experiments, and/or training to promote P2/source reduction efforts. Proposals that principally support recycling, clean-up, treatment, disposal and/or energy recovery activities will not be considered for funding.

Brownfields and Revitalization Grant Program

Description: EPA’s Brownfields Program provides funds to empower states, communities, tribes, and nonprofits to prevent, inventory, assess, clean up, and reuse brownfield sites.

Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grants Program
Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number for the competition: 66.815
Description: Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training (EWDJT) grants are provided to recruit, train, and place, unemployed and under-employed and predominantly low-income and minority residents historically affected by hazardous and solid waste sites and facilities with the skills needed to secure full-time, sustainable employment in the environmental field and in the assessment and cleanup work taking place in their communities.

Five Star Restoration Training Grant Program

Description: The Five Star Restoration Training Grant Program brings together citizen groups, corporations, youth conservation corps, students, landowners, and government agencies to undertake projects that achieve environmental training through voluntary, community/watershed-based wetland restoration projects.

Environmental Education Grants Program
Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number for the competition: 66.950
Description: The Environmental Education Grants Program provides funds to local education agencies, state and local environmental agencies, 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, non-commercial broadcasting entities, colleges and universities, and tribal education agencies to conduct educational projects that increase knowledge of environmental issues and how to take action on those issues at the local level.

Additional Community-Based Grants
This is a list of community-based grant programs that do not have solicitations expected for 2012.
- Region 1 Healthy Communities Grant Program - works directly with communities to reduce environmental risks to protect and improve human health and the quality of life
- School Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Grants - increase IPM adoption by kindergarten to 12th grade public and tribal schools
- Pesticide Registration Improvement Renewal Act (PRIA 2) - reduce pesticide risks through stewardship
- National Community-Based Lead Outreach and Training Grants - reduce the number of childhood lead poisonings in low income communities with older housing
- Protection of Children from Environmental Health Risk - reduce environmental risks to the health of children
- Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) Program - helps communities identify and collaboratively address local environmental problems that they want to solve by building community-based, multi-stakeholder partnerships that must include businesses, residents and governments.
