Data and Results

EPA's enforcement and compliance assurance program uses data in many areas, including managing the program and assessing performance. This page offers links to online data sources, as well as information about reports and data systems.

Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO) ECHO provides fast, integrated searches of EPA and state data for more than 800,000 regulated facilities. ECHO focuses on inspection, violation, and enforcement data for the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and also includes Safe Drinking Water Act and Toxics Release Inventory data.

Criminal Cases Search Summary of Criminal Prosecutions resulting from environmental investigations provides information on concluded criminal enforcement cases, by the U.S. government's fiscal year (October to September).

Envirofacts - Envirofacts provides data from across the EPA programs.

Data Systems - The information that EPA uses to manage and assess performance of its enforcement and compliance assurance program is stored in several national data systems, which can be found on this page. Most data from these systems are available via ECHO.

National Enforcement Initiatives - Every three years, EPA sets national enforcement initiatives to focus civil and criminal enforcement resources and expertise on serious pollution problems affecting communities. This page shows progress made under each of the initiatives.

EPA Annual Results - At the end of each fiscal year, EPA announces the results of compliance assurance and enforcement activities.

State Review Framework Includes information and reports from the State Review Framework (SRF) program, which consistently assesses EPA and state enforcement of the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act and hazardous waste laws.

National Enforcement Trends - The National Enforcement Trends (NETs) report is a set of tables and graphs that describe EPA's national enforcement and compliance results and trends. NETs data are generally presented for different time periods and includes graphs and provide background information.

EJView - Mapping tool focused on environmental justice that allows users to create maps and generate detailed reports based on the geographic areas and data sets they choose.
